What is intrapreneurship
Whilst working for electronics company Sony, employee Ken Kutaragi began to develop an idea that would improve the quality of computer games. With the full support of the company, Ken was given the freedom to work on his concept and develop it into a project. That product was the Sony PlayStation – now one of the best-selling game consoles of all time.
Intrapreneurship is allowing an employee to operate like an entrepreneur whilst still working for a company.
Why intrapreneurship is good for business
Investing and encouraging intrapreneurship can help businesses innovate; retain talented and valuable staff; drive growth and attract new investment – all within a management framework.
At a time when many businesses are changing and adapting in response to the coronavirus pandemic, investing in talent within your team as intrapreneurs is a great way for your business to enter new markets, develop new products and pivot to respond to customer demand.
